My Teaching Philosophy
Throughout my many years of experience in the English field, I have developed my own teaching philosophy. To begin, I strongly believe that everyone is capable of excellent work, and it is my job to help you achieve this. I like to think of my classroom as a community in which we can all help each other improve our work. With English, you can achieve anything, which is why it is so important to read and write whenever possible.
I think that writing about literature is one of the best ways to learn, while also practicing and experimenting with new writing styles. In this class, we will involve writing as much as possible. Writing is a process, and we will be working with all stages of this process on a regular basis. We will be writing and revising continuously throughout the year. It is important to understand the vast differences between revising and editing. Revising is more than merely correcting spelling and grammar errors--it is not being afraid to completely rework or rewrite a piece. In this class, we will make revising a fun and experimental process!
Writing is a vital part of your future, especially with the growing advances in technology. With texting, emailing, tweeting, and blogging, we are writing more than ever! Writing is not only a wonderful mode of self-expression, it is vital to everyday communication. We will integrate writing as much as possible in this class, both with various essays and writing-to-learn strategies. Get ready to break away from the five-paragraph essay and experiment with new styles of writing. Get ready to have some fun!
